If we apply this approach to law firm management, we find three fundamental principles that can make the difference between a stagnant firm and one experiencing constant growth:

1. Identify bottlenecks weekly

One of the most common mistakes in law firms is postponing the resolution of strategic problems until they become unmanageable. Musk’s methodology invites us to change this mindset: rather than addressing issues reactively, we must do so proactively.

Each week, the firm’s partners and CEO should reflect and ask: what is the biggest challenge currently limiting our growth or efficiency? It could be the lack of high-value client acquisition, the loss of key talent, inefficient internal processes, or a poorly targeted legal marketing strategy. By consistently identifying these bottlenecks and prioritising their resolution, stagnation is avoided, and more dynamic growth is encouraged.

2. Directly intervene in solving key problems

In traditional corporate environments, CEOs tend to delegate most tasks and rely on reports and meetings for information. Musk, however, adopts a radically different approach: he directly engages in solving his company’s key problems.

Decentralisation of power: Reduce hierarchical barriers so that lawyers and key teams have the autonomy to propose and implement solutions without needing multiple approvals.

Constant iteration mindset: Do not wait for the “perfect strategy”—instead, implement continuous improvements, measure results, and adjust as necessary.

Investment in talent and technology: Musk understands that solutions do not come solely from top management but from talent at all levels. Applying this mindset in a law firm means investing in training, technology, and giving a voice to those who interact directly with clients.
