VII Latin American Legal Forum: special international directories held in Peru

Gericó Associates shares the keys to appear and improve the presence of firms in international directories during the VII Latin American Legal Forum

The Swissotel Hotel in Lima (Peru) hosted yesterday the VII Latin American Legal Forum which, dedicated to international directories, brought together numerous law firms of relevance in Peru such as ACB Abogados, BAFUR, BenitesVargas Ugaz, Bullard Falla Ezcurra, Caro & Asociados, CMS Grau, Echaiz, Baker McKenzie-Echecopar, García Sayán, Gonzales Hunt, Kennedys Perú, Linares, MOAR, Olaechea, Osterling, Philippi Prietocarrizosa Ferrero DU & Uría (PPU), Revoredo and Sumara Hub Legal.

We could affirm that, nowadays, nobody doubts the value of appearing properly ranked in the most prestigious international legal directories such as Chambers & Partners, Legal 500 or Latin Lawyer. These rankings are -relatively speaking and using the simile of the legal journalist Álvaro García Zarzalejos- “the Michelin guide of the sector”. Following the parallelism, getting to appear in any of these international directories is not something that happens by a stroke of luck but, on the contrary, needs the perseverance of a good team. Behind a position in Chambers & Partners, Legal 500 or Latin Lawyer, there is a lot of communication work, apart from the impeccable work developed by the law firms themselves on a daily basis.

The presentation given yesterday by Antonella Puntriano, International Directories Manager at Gericó Associates, during the Latin American Legal Forum, organized by the international consultancy firm and the prestigious business school ESAN, gave the keys not only to appear prominently in these directories, but also to do so in the best positions. These keys, of course, have to be reflected in the candidatures, better known as submissions.

In this sense, Marc Gericó, Managing Partner of Gericó Associates, explains that “knowing that this type of actions are of vital importance for the business development of the law firms both in the national and international context, we decided to dedicate the VII Latin American Legal Forum to this monograph since it is a topic of interest to many but of which there is relatively little specialized information available to the general public”.

One by one, Puntriano broke down the substantial differences of each directory emphasizing all the key points that cannot be lost sight of if we want to improve our presence and that of our lawyers in them. “It is common to think – erroneously – that international directories are mere analyses of legal quality, but the reality is totally different. The specialists know that if the presence of the firms is managed in the right way, these directories are a source of business, directly and indirectly, since they actually serve as market studies, reflecting how our firm and our professionals are perceived”, said Puntriano.

Wilfredo Murillo, Partner in Peru of Gericó Associates, was in charge of the opening of this seventh edition of the Latin American Legal Forum and, during his speech, he emphasized the importance of these international directories for law firms, since they serve as external “quality seals” within a market with such specific particularities as those of the legal sector.
